Reaching for our goal

Be a Schoeneck Organ Donor!
During the spring of 2021, when the church building was closed due to Covid-19, a heavy rainstorm caused considerable water damage to both the steeple roof and the organ pipe chamber, including ruined pipes and the system that blows air into the pipes. The congregation has contracted for restoration work on the organ to be done beginning in late summer 2022. In addition to repairing the water damage, all pipes will be cleaned, and some periodic organ maintenance and updating will be completed.

One of the façade pipes, visible on the front of the organ, shows dried water residue and small pieces of ceiling tile and plaster on the inside of the pipe.
From the exterior of the organ, the damage does not look very bad, except for the dangling ceiling tile to the left of the taller pipes.
Pieces of plaster and ceiling tile and dried water spots can be seen on the top of the wind chest.
Dried water spots coat the wooden rack of rows of pipes. White debris can be seen inside some of the pipes, which are about ½ inch in diameter.
The wind chest under the Swell pipes (think of it as a large bellows with a weight on top to regular the air pressure) shows the effects of past water damage on the wood and leather. The leather will need to be replaced.
